August Blog: Friendship Day

Friendship Day is celebrated on the first Sunday of August.  “The tradition of dedicating a day in honor of friends began in the US in 1935.  On this day people spend time with their friends….” https://www.friendshipday.org).  Friendship day is celebrated in many countries.  We all have friends, some who are best friends and always there for us.  Other friends we have that we don’t always keep contact with as often, like friends from our “younger days”, friends from school or friends we have from past jobs or those we meet through our job.

Life can’t go by without having friends.  Some have many, others have a select few, but each one of them are important to us.  Friends are always there for you when you need to talk.  If you have having a bad day and just need to vent, they are there.  Friends are those who you go out with shopping, go to the beach, out for dinner or just hanging around the house and sewing, crocheting or knitting or having tea, coffee or lunch with.  Friends help us get through life together.  They help make life enjoyable.  Friends can be a relative, a girlfriend, a boyfriend, a work friend, your significant other or your spouse.  Anyone can be a friend.  A friend is someone you can trust and has your back all the time.  They can be near or far, even in other countries.

So before August 4th , take some time and reflect on what each of your friends mean to you.  Send a card, an e-mail, or give them a call to say thanks for being my friend.  Or if you can, spend some time with them, whether an hour or the day.  Let them know you care.  I believe that if we do that, those that we do connect with will have a great day and might even make your day or week!  Hopefully you will receive a call, a card or spend time with a friend and take time to think about your friendship and SMILE!!!!
